Breakfast: Shakeology + fruit
The 3-Day Refresh started out just like any other morning for me… with Shakeology! They actually recommend that you start the day with 8-10 oz of water, but instead I drank 32 oz, which filled me up so much that I didn’t even feel hungry til about 2 hours after I woke up. I made my shake with 10oz of water, 1/2 of a banana (1 serving of fruit according to the Refresh), and my favorite, Vegan Chocolate Shakeology. You have the choice to eat the fruit a la cart or blended in the shake, and since I always put banana in my shake this was a no-brainer. It’s suggested that during the Refresh you forgo coffee for the best results (although you can drink it black or with stevia if you choose) so I went without.
Mid-Morning: Fiber Sweep
To be honest, I was a little afraid of the Fiber Sweep. I’ve had straight up fiber before and it was less than enjoyable, so I was expecting something similar. But to my surprise (and relief) it was good! It has a mild, fruity kind of flavor that reminds me of a candy whose name I can’t put my finger on. You have to mix it (I used my Blender Bottle) with 8 oz of water and drink it right away, my guess is it begins to separate if you let it sit. But overall I didn’t mind the flavor at all and it did fill me up.
You’re allowed to drink unsweetened herbal or green tea (with stevia if you choose) in the morning, afternoon, and evening, so this might be a good replacement for coffee if you’re accustomed to drinking it throughout the day.
Lunch: Vanilla Fresh + Fruit + Vegetable + Healthy Fats
Lunchtime includes the Vanilla Fresh protein shake, which in my opinion tastes just like Vanilla Shakeology. It’s supposed to be blended with 10 oz of water and you can add a serving of fruit, ice, or any of the guilt-free flavorings listed, which include cinnamon, nutmeg, and stevia. I might jazz it up a bit next time, but I thought it tasted great just the way it is! I have to admit that by lunchtime, I was feeling pretty hungry. I let too much time pass since the Fiber Sweep and I was ready to eat! I had 1/2 banana (1 serving of fruit), 10 snow pea pods (1 serving of vegetables), and 2 tbsp hummus (1 serving of healthy fats). It didn’t seem like a lot of food at first, but by the time I ate everything and the shake I felt satisfied.
Afternoon Snack: Vegetable + Healthy Fats
For my snack, I sliced up 1 small red pepper as my vegetable serving. One of the healthy fats options is avocado, and everyone knows the best way to eat avocado is guacamole! I had planned to make a Refresh-approved version of this recipe, but unfortunately the avocados at the grocery store were not in good shape. Luckily I found some clean guacamole that was perfect!
I enjoyed another hot tea a few hours before dinner. Also, by this time I had almost finished another 32 oz of water, for a total of 64. You need to drink at least half your body weight in ounces each day of the 3-Day Refresh, and at this point I’ve already reached that goal.
Dinner: Vanilla Fresh + Dinner Recipe
The 3-Day Refresh Program Guide includes some great recipes for dinnertime. Tonight I chose to make the Coconut Steamed Veggies and I used frozen green beans, fresh sliced baby carrots, and fresh cauliflower. I decided to spice it up a bit by using some of the approved seasonings: cumin, curry, paprika, chili powder, ground ginger, and a sprinkling of dried cilantro. There is the option of adding 1 cup of vegetable broth as part of your dinner, so I chose to have that as well. The Vanilla Fresh was the perfect dessert after I added a little cinnamon, and after all that I was quite full!
I chose to have one last cup of tea while sitting on the couch watching TV. It was the perfect way to warm up on such a cold night.
My biggest fear today was that the Vanilla Fresh and Fiber Sweep shakes were going to be terrible. I was pleasantly surprised when both tasted good and actually filled me up. I drank a ton of water, which also helped keep me full, but I have to admit that I did feel hungry at times. I think that’s probably normal during Day 1 though and I expect my body to adjust tomorrow. It’s suggested that during the 3-Day Refresh, you refrain from exercise or keep to mild to moderate workouts like yoga, so today I decided not to work out. I am considering doing Pilates tomorrow, but I may just instead save my energy so that my body can cleanse itself without the added stress of a workout.
